What is a Multi lift and drop – hook loader vehicle?
A multi lift and drop, hook loader vehicle is a heavy-duty truck chassis that’s been fitted with a hydraulic hook lift hoist. The hydraulic hoist system lets contractors, municipalities and other work vehicle users roll on and roll off different truck bodies or containers. This is included in the TUPPCO NPORS Multi lift and drop hook loader vehicle training – N225.
What does the TUPPCO NPORS Multi lift and drop hook loader vehicle training course include?
- Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as a plant operator
- Have a working knowledge of the manufacture’s handbook for the particular machine to be used
- Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
- Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements
- Configure the vehicle ready for travel, on site and on public highway
- Travel over various types of ground i.e. level ground, undulating ground, loaded and unloaded
- Manoeuvre in confined spaces loaded and unloaded
- Check the suitability of the loading and unloading area
- Check for hazards, i.e. overhead hazards, ground, hazards, and explain all necessary precautions
- Position the vehicle safely and correctly so as to conduct loading / unloading operations
- Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for machine use
- Pick up and deposit skips of various sizes and weights
- Transfer skips to various locations
- Check the skip and load for security and integrity
- Check that all skips are left in a safe manner when deposited
- Carry out all end of shift shut down procedures

Theory assessment:
- 20 multiple choice questions
- 5 written questions
- 4 marks per question
- 80% pass mark required
Practical assessment criteria:
- Pre use and operational checks
- Travel of varying terrain
- Perform a tight left and right turn loaded and unloaded forwards and in reverse
- Position the vehicle to lift skip
- Reverse loaded vehicle 15m in a straight line
- Unhook skip in restricted area within 500mm
- Shut down checks
- Pass mark is less than 20 penalty points and no mandatory disqualifications Time allowed is 1 hour 45 minutes
