What is Telescopic handler – suspended loads?
Telescopic handlers can lift, and transport loads suspended from the head stock. This enables them to move objects around site to hard-to-reach places. This will be included in the NPORS Telescopic handler – suspended loads training – N138
What does the TUPPCO NPORS Telescopic handler – suspended loads training course include?
- Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator
- Be able to conform to manufacturers requirements as per technical data, conform to relevant regulations and legislation
- Be able to locate, identify and explain safe working loads, lifting capacity chart and explain How the manufacturer may reduce the lifting capacity when moving a suspended Load, different lifting configurations and working ranges
- Identify and explain different lifting procedures, explain What task could fall into each category
- Identify and explain centres of gravity and calculate estimated weights of loads
- Identify any overhead / proximity hazards
- Be able to agree the signal codes / hand signals, direction of movement, safe working and safe landing placement zone with the slinger / signaller
- Ensure telescopic handler is in a safe condition and attachments fitted correctly
- Checked Load integrity and security
- Be able to Lift and move a Load to a designated position in a safe and controlled manner, ensuring minimum uncontrolled movement
- Environmental considerations
- Carry out all out of service and Securing procedures
Venue and equipment requirements:
- Suitable and safe area to operate machine
- 1 x bundled load
- 1 x long load
- 1 x load that is no more than 60% of the rate capacity, at 75% of its extended height and reach
- Varying terrain and slopes
- Suitable and safe area to complete paperwork
- Suitable welfare facilities
- Telescopic handler with suitable lifting attachments
- Operators’ manual
- Risk assessment completed
- In date thorough test examination report for the machine

Theory assessment:
- 20 multiple choice questions
- 5 written questions
- 4 marks per question
- 80% pass mark required
Practical assessment criteria:
- Pre use and operational checks
- Lift, move and place loads under the direction of a slinger/signaller to a given position
- Drive through chicane, forwards and in reverse
- Drive over uneven and sloping terrain
- Pass mark is less than 30 penalty points and no mandatory disqualifications
- Time allowed is 1 hours
