What is the QA Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (Annual Refresher) (RQF)?
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Statutory Framework states that early years providers should consider whether paediatric first aiders need to undertake annual refresher training to maintain basic key skills and keep up to date with any changes to paediatric first aid procedures.
The QA Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (Annual Refresher) (RQF) qualification has been specifically designed to allow qualified paediatric first aiders to refresh their knowledge and practice essential paediatric first aid skills every year until requalification training is required.
The objective of the qualification is to benefit Learners by preparing them to deal with a range of paediatric first aid situations. It is designed to help maintain skills and keep up to date with any changes to paediatric first aid procedures.

- CPR and defibrillation

Venue and equipment requirements:
- Suitable and safe area to complete paperwork
- Suitable welfare facilities
- Suitable area for practical demonstrations

Practical assessment criteria:
Practical assessments – observed by the Trainer throughout the course, with the results of each learning outcome recorded on the practical assessment paperwork.
There are 4 mandatory and 1 optional practical assessment for this qualification:
- Infant CPR and safe use of an AED
- Child CPR and safe use of an AED
- Choking casualty
- Unconscious casualty
- Catastrophic bleeding (optional)
