What is a tiltrotator system?
A tiltrotator is connected between the excavator’s arm and the bucket and can be compared to a wrist that allows the operator to tilt (up to 45 degrees) and rotate the bucket or other tool infinitely in both directions.

What does the TUPPCO NPORS Tiltrotator system training course include?
- Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as a plant operator
- Have a working knowledge of the manufacture’s handbook for the tiltrotator and explain their functions
- Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for tiltrotator use
- Be able to explain the different types of tiltrotator devices
- Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufactures and legislative requirements
- Conduct all necessary safety checks at the designed change over area
- Fit and remove attachments safely and efficiently
- Demonstrate and explain checks for attachment security
- Environmental considerations
- Carrying out all end of shift and shut down procedures
Venue and equipment requirements:
- Suitable and safe area to dig trenches and backfill
- Varying terrain and slopes
- Bulk material to load vehicle
- Vehicle or hopper to load (dumper, trailer)
- Suitable and safe area to complete paperwork
- Suitable welfare facilities
- 360° Excavator with tiltrotator, digging and grading buckets
- Operators’ manuals
- Risk assessment completed

Theory assessment:
- 20 multiple choice questions
- 5 written questions
- 4 marks per question
- 80% pass mark required
Practical assessment criteria:
- Pre use and operational checks
- Excavate a “V” shape trench using a digging bucket
- Back fill trench demonstrating various tilt angles
- Using the grading bucket use various tilt angles
- Using the grading bucket and various different angles form a 45° angles batter with a 90° return
- Excavator and tiltrotator parked safely and isolated
- (Operator must have valid excavator qualification)
- Time allowed is 1 hours 30 minutes
