What is a Leaf Blower?
A Leaf Blower is a machine that generates a current of air used to move loose leaves and debris for collection.
What does the training course include?
- Session 1 Prepare for blower operations
- Session 2 Operating the blower
- Session 3 Clearing the site and machine checks
- Produce a site-specific risk assessment for blower operations
- Identify the necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required
- Identify the health and safety features required on a blower
- Identify defects on a blower and decide which the operator can remedy, and which require a service engineer’s attention
- Correctly carryout all routine maintenance in accordance with the machine manufacturer’s instruction book and/or this workbook
- Prepare the blower for use with the correct fuel/oil mix
- Start the blower from both hot and cold start in a safe manner
- State the possible hazards/risks when carrying out maintenance or operational tasks
- Maintain the blower in a safe and efficient working condition
- Adjust the blower for safe and comfortable operation where a harness is used
- Operate the blower in a safe manner having regard for the safety of the public, property and environmental factors
- Organise the site and use a systematic method of working where possible.
Venue and equipment requirements:
- Suitable and safe area to operate the machine
- Access to an area with leaves or vegetation from activities such as hedge trimming operations.
- Maintenance equipment
- Suitable and safe area to complete paperwork
- Leaf Blower and any attachments
- Operators’ manual
- Risk assessment completed
PPE Requirements:
- Suitable head protection
- Suitable eye protection
- Suitable hearing protection
- Suitable work clothes to PPE regs including wet weather
- Gloves
- Suitable work boots including steel toe protection
- Respiratory protection as appropriate
